Our History

 

Our squadron shares its name with Number 318 "City of Gdańsk" Polish Fighter-Reconnaissance Squadron who fought alongside the Royal Air Force (RAF) during World War II. The squadron was involved in ground attack and tactical reconnaissance operations over Italy including the Battle of Monte Cassino.

The squadron was active from 20 March 1943 – 12 December 1946. It operated Hawker Hurricane and then Submarine Spitfire. The squadron emblem painted on the aircraft was the 3 of Hearts, Ace of Spades, 8 of Diamonds.
